MagnetiCE 1.0: Main Contents

What is MagnetiCE?

MagnetiCE is a port of Magnetic.

Not clear enough? Oh well then, Magnetic is an interpreter for Magnetic Scrolls games. To pre-emt the next question, Magnetic Scrolls games are text adventure games with static graphics, which were written in the late 80s and still provide excellent entertainment.

MagnetiCE, the Windows CE port, is written by Nick Lines (nick@chiark.com), and is released under the GPL.

Magnetic is written by:

Magnetic Copyright (C) 1997-2003 Niclas Karlsson, and is released under the GPL

Playing the games

MagnetiCE has a very simple user interface: load a game using File>Open.

If you wish to see the graphics (and you do, they still look good!), you need to place the appropriate graphics file in the same directory as the .mag game file. The graphics file should have the same name as the game file, and the extension ".gfx".

The graphics window can be dragged using the client (picture) area.

The interpreter supports command line history via cursor keys, and allows you to undo the last move with "#undo".

To obtain games, visit the Magnetic Scrolls memorial at if-legends - http://www.if-legends.org/~msmemorial/memorial.htm

If you use this interpreter and want to see more features, contact the author: it's the only way us developers know someone actually uses the stuff we write!

Limitations of MagnetiCE

Confession time: I was going to do these things before I released MagnetiCE 1.0, but didn't.

Contact the Author

If you use this, whether you love it or loathe it, the author would love to hear from you. Developers are human too, and get depressed if they think that they're wasting their time writing something that no-one (other than themselves) use.

A mail would be appreciated! :-)
